The earliest ancestor of my Moergenthaler family Heinrich Mergenthaler is first documentary mentioned at the birth of the son Michel Mergenthaler. His baptism was documented on Sept. 20, 1573 in the birth records of Kornwestheim, subsidiary Zazenhausen (smaller picture top left). Over Beinstein and Rommelshausen next Waiblingen the Mörgenthalers moved to Niederhofen next Brackenheim in 1677 (details see under name origin). The spelling Mergenthaler and Mörgenthaler (engl. Moergenthaler) alternate in the charge records even though the identical family or person, respectively, is described.
In 1870 the cabinet maker Johann Georg Mörgenthaler settled down in Zuffenhausen next Stuttgart, where he founded a Furniture Factory. Eugen Mörgenthaler continued the manufacturing of furniture until the destruction during World War II.
Most ancestors of Eugen Mörgenthaler - whether paternal or maternal - predominantly came from the vicinity of Niederhofen or from Rems river valley (see places).
