Dr.-Ing. Klaus D. Mörgenthaler



Klaus D. Moergenthaler, a graduate of Stuttgart Technical University in Mechanical Engineering in 1972, joined the Max-Planck Institute, Stuttgart, and received his doctor's degree on solid state-bonding of ceramics and metals in 1979. Since 1977, he has been a member of Daimler-Benz Research Division. 1980 he became responsible for the development of ceramic components and the automotive application of structural ceramics. From 1977 until 1990 he worked on fine ceramic components for the Mercedes-Benz gas turbine. Since 1982 he was more and more involved with the development of ceramic valves and other piston engine components, of high-technology brakes based on carbon and ceramic, high strength graphite pistons, hydroforming of metals, forming tools for high strength steels, ceramic tools for manufacturing etc. In 1992 he became scientific leader for structural ceramics and carbons. He took his early retirement from the DaimlerChrysler Research Division, part of the present Daimler AG, in 2004. On request of a ceramic company he started as an advisory consultant mid of 2005.
